Low frequency vibrations, generated by blasting or heavy vibrating machines, are potentially damaging for civil structures. They can generates cracks or settlements and all the associated consequences. SITES is a recognized specialist in Europe in the area of low frequencies vibrations monitoring in order to determine if the vibrations concerned are potentially damaging for a civil structures.
During preparation earthworks for EPR in Penly 3, SITES has, in real-time, monitored low frequencies vibrations generated by machines. The goal of the monitoring was to avoid damages to the two nuclear units next to the construction site. In case where vibrations exceeded a predefined threshold, the system warns by flashing lights, on-site buzzer and sends data remotely to responsible persons for analysis.
